Group of Non-equilibrium Solidification & Metastable Materials (NES) was found in 1999, by the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). By more than ten years development, NES mainly covers several research fields, including the theory and technique of non-equilibrium solidification, bulk metallic glass, metallic nano crystal, advanced steel materials and computational materials science. NES now has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, 2 professor . There are 16 Ph. D. candidates and 2 Master candidates.

Based on its research target “The combination of fundamental research and application research”, NES has charged with more than 20 national research programs, published more than 100 papers. One of the PhD students has gained the nomination of national excellent doctoral dissertations.

NES now is developing towards excellent research group with initiative spirit, and high standards for achievements of every member.
